How to Join: SPD Membership as an Affiliate
Affiliate membership in the SPD is provided for persons who are not members of the AAS. Affiliate members have all the rights, privileges, and obligations of full members, but they may not vote or hold office in the division. To apply, please fill out the application for Affiliate Membership, keeping in mind that:
- You must be a member of another recognized professional organization with interests related to solar physics. The SPD Committee has identified the following acceptable organizations (but is willing to consider others):American Chemical Society

American Meteorological Society
American Physical Society
European Astronomical Society
European Geosciences Union
Institute of Electrical, Electronics Engineers
International Astronomical Union
Japanese Astronomical Society
Optical Society of America
Royal Astronomical Society
Societé Française des Spec. d'Astronomie - You must be sponsored by two Full or Emeritus (not Affiliate or Junior) members of the SPD. You can check the status of your potential sponsors at ovsa.njit.edu/SPD; type in the name and make sure there is an F (Full) or an E (Emeritus) listed next to the membership code. If you choose to apply by e-mail, please indicate the names and e-mail addresses of your sponsors, and ask them to send a brief email to the SPD Secretary (spd.secretary@aas.org) to confirm their willingness to sponsor you; their messages should also confirm that you are a member of the listed professional organization and include a sentence or two describing your research and how it is relevant to Solar Physics.
- You must pay the Affiliate member dues of $30. Payment is handled through the AAS and details will be given after the application is approved.
